Die Deutsche Wochenschau Nr. 567 (Kinostart 16. Juli 1941) dokumentiert die Kriegswoche knapp vier Wochen nach Beginn des deutschen Überfalls auf die Sowjetunion (Unternehmen Barbarossa, ab 22. Juni 1941). Als zeitgenössische nationalsozialistische Propaganda zeigt die Ausgabe Beiträge von mehreren Abschnitten der Ostfront. Zu Beginn werden europäische Freiwillige vorgestellt, die nach Darstellung der Wochenschau aus Norwegen, Dänemark, den Niederlanden, Spanien, Rumänien, Ungarn und der Slowakei zum Kampf gegen den Bolschewismus antraten. Aus dem hohen Norden zeigt die Ausgabe Operationen im finnischen Abschnitt mit dem Vorstoß auf Salla, Sturzkampfflugzeugen und Angriffen auf sowjetische Schiffe; ferner Brückenbau im rumänischen Frontabschnitt. Aus der Ukraine werden der Vormarsch in Richtung Kiew, Artilleriefeuer auf sowjetische Stellungen und ein Empfang deutscher Soldaten durch die Bevölkerung gezeigt. Den militärischen Schwerpunkt bildet der Abschluss der Doppelschlacht von Bialystok und Minsk, bei der die Wochenschau rund 325.000 Gefangene meldet und kumulierte Verlustzahlen bis zum 11. Juli nennt; die Stadt Minsk war bei den Kämpfen weitgehend zerstört worden. Weitere Aufnahmen zeigen den Einmarsch in das von der Roten Armee zerstörte Riga, wobei – in der für das Regime typischen propagandistischen und antisemitischen Aufbereitung – jüdische Zivilisten zu Aufräumarbeiten herangezogen werden, sowie Kämpfe in Estland und Operationen am Peipussee. In English: Die Deutsche Wochenschau No. 567 (cinema release 16 July 1941) documents the war week barely four weeks into the German invasion of the Soviet Union (Operation Barbarossa, from 22 June 1941). As contemporaneous Nazi propaganda the issue presents items from several sectors of the Eastern Front. It opens with European volunteers said to have come from Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia to fight against Bolshevism. From the far north it shows operations in the Finnish sector with the push on Salla and attacks on Soviet ships, plus bridge-building in the Romanian sector. From Ukraine it shows the advance toward Kiev and artillery fire on Soviet positions. The military focus is the conclusion of the twin battle of Bialystok-Minsk, with the newsreel claiming around 325,000 prisoners; Minsk was largely destroyed. Further footage shows the entry into devastated Riga, where Jewish civilians are forced into cleanup work (the regime's typical propagandistic, antisemitic framing), and fighting in Estonia near Lake Peipus. Die Deutsche Wochenschau was the unified weekly newsreel of Nazi Germany, produced by Universum Film AG (UFA) in Berlin and released in cinemas from June 1940 until 22 March 1945 (the last theatrical edition, No. 755). It was created by consolidating the four previously competing German newsreels — Ufa-Tonwoche, Deulig-Tonwoche, Tobis-Wochenschau and the Fox Tönende Wochenschau — into a single propaganda instrument. Its predecessor, the Ufa-Tonwoche, had run as UFA's weekly newsreel from 1925 (with synchronized sound from 1930) until it was merged in 1940. Throughout, production was supervised and censored by the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda under Joseph Goebbels, who used the newsreels to shape wartime public opinion; these films are now a core part of the audiovisual record of the Nazi era, preserved primarily by the German Federal Archives (Bundesarchiv).
