April 1941 veröffentlicht und berichtet über die schnellen Geländegewinne der Achsenmächte auf dem Balkan und in Nordafrika in der zweiten Aprilwoche 1941. Im nordafrikanischen Kriegsschauplatz zeigt die Ausgabe den Vormarsch deutscher und italienischer Verbände in der Cyrenaika: Nachschub für das Deutsche Afrikakorps unter Generalleutnant Erwin Rommel, die Einnahme von El Agheila (Agheila) und der Hafenstadt Bengasi, die am 4. April 1941 von den Achsentruppen besetzt worden war. Der zweite große Block gilt dem Balkanfeldzug in Jugoslawien: Die Wochenschau dokumentiert den raschen Vorstoß deutscher Stoßtruppen, das Übersetzen über zerstörte Flussübergänge und die Eroberung von Maribor (Marburg an der Drau) im Norden, von Niš (Nisch) im Südosten sowie den Einmarsch in die Hauptstadt Belgrad, die am 12./13. April 1941 fiel; wenige Tage später, am 17. April 1941, kapitulierte die jugoslawische Armee. Der dritte Schwerpunkt ist der Griechenlandfeldzug: gezeigt werden der Angriff auf und der Durchbruch durch die griechische Metaxas-Linie, das stark befestigte Grenzbefestigungssystem in Ostmazedonien, sowie der Einmarsch in die Hafen- und Großstadt Saloniki (Thessaloniki), die am 9. April 1941 besetzt wurde. Als zeitgenössisches Propagandainstrument inszeniert die Ausgabe diese Operationen als überlegene und nahezu widerstandslose Erfolge und blendet die zivilen und militärischen Verluste der angegriffenen Staaten aus. Historisch markiert diese Woche den Zusammenbruch des jugoslawischen und des griechischen Widerstands gegen die deutsche Wehrmacht und ihre Verbündeten innerhalb weniger Tage. In North Africa it shows the advance of German and Italian forces across Cyrenaica, with supplies for the Afrika Korps under Lieutenant General Erwin Rommel and the capture of El Agheila and the port of Benghazi (taken 4 April 1941). The second block covers the campaign in Yugoslavia: the swift advance of German shock troops across destroyed crossings and the seizure of Maribor in the north, Niš in the south-east, and the entry into the capital Belgrade, which fell on 12-13 April 1941 (the Yugoslav army capitulated on 17 April). The third focus is the Greek campaign: the attack on and breakthrough through the fortified Metaxas Line in eastern Macedonia, and the entry into Salonika (Thessaloniki), occupied on 9 April 1941. Die Deutsche Wochenschau was the unified weekly newsreel of Nazi Germany, produced by Universum Film AG (UFA) in Berlin and released in cinemas from June 1940 until 22 March 1945 (the last theatrical edition, No. 755). It was created by consolidating the four previously competing German newsreels — Ufa-Tonwoche, Deulig-Tonwoche, Tobis-Wochenschau and the Fox Tönende Wochenschau — into a single propaganda instrument. Its predecessor, the Ufa-Tonwoche, had run as UFA's weekly newsreel from 1925 (with synchronized sound from 1930) until it was merged in 1940. Throughout, production was supervised and censored by the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda under Joseph Goebbels, who used the newsreels to shape wartime public opinion; these films are now a core part of the audiovisual record of the Nazi era, preserved primarily by the German Federal Archives (Bundesarchiv).
